ABSTRACT

Across eras and civilisations, architectural vocabulary and mechanisms have always played a great role in connecting architecture with culture, expressing the character of a city in a way that reflects the culture of its society. Consequently, ornaments are a major component of the architectural vocabulary that allows architecture to connect to culture. Nowadays, the new architectural theories deal with the concept of ornament by following a new vision and methodologies that reflect the new cultural turn of the twenty-first century. In this context, the paper discusses the role of ornament in connecting architecture with culture in new cities as well as the great influence of the new digital theories and technologies that form new ornaments in the twenty-first century, aiming to link the architecture and urban typology of modern cities with the new cultural turns.
