ABSTRACT

The objective of this present study is to investigate the correlation between the parenting style of working mothers and the mothers’ perception of their school-aged children’s academic achievement. The instruments used in this study are the Parenting Styles and Dimensions Questionnaire (PSDQ—Short Version) and the Scale of Perceived Academic Achievement (SPAA). One hundred and fifty full-time working mothers with at least one school-aged child living in the Jabodetabek region participated in this study. The result of this study shows that authoritative and authoritarian parenting style are significantly correlated with the mothers’ perception of their school-aged children’s academic achievement. The result of this study also shows that the age, educational level, socioeconomic status, culture of origin of the mothers and the children’s gender are not significantly correlated with the parenting style of the working mothers. Moreover, the result of this study shows that the educational level, socioeconomic status of the mothers and the children’s gender are not significantly correlated with the mothers’ perception of their children’s academic achievement.
