ABSTRACT
This book is dedicated to the life’s work of Sabrina Petra Ramet. Among her many works on the the religious situation in Eastern Europe, the scholarly place of the Orthodox Church is distinguished. In addition, her many books on the Yugoslav successor states include a valuable contribution to our understanding of Macedonia. One of the finest remains the edited volume, Civic and Uncivic Values in Macedonia. 1 Because of its emphasis on changes in Macedonian intellectual and social life, the book highlights the context of Macedonia’s emerging political system. The breadth, value and accessibility of the book remain unequaled, yet it is only one in a series of books on Yugoslavia’s successors. No such collection has done more to broaden our understanding of the complex legacy of former Yugoslavia. It is to such lasting scholarship that this chapter and volume are dedicated.
