ABSTRACT
This chapter discusses the type, and a possible shift in the type of governance of the welfare-employment regime in Japan, the structures and processes of which are determined by the perceived relative competency, authority and legitimacy of the state, market and family in supporting the reproduction of the labour force at micro, meso and macro levels, as the very basis of any political economy.
