ABSTRACT

The chapter concentrates on ancient Egyptian recipes for afflictions of the back and the abdomen. Among the papyri examined are the well-known papyri Ebers and Berlin 3038 as well as Papyrus Chester Beatty VI and the still unpublished medical Papyrus Brooklyn 47.218.75+86. These texts are analysed within the broader context of healing traditions concerning abdominal ailments in ancient Egypt and the Eastern Mediterranean.
