ABSTRACT
Linguistic diversity is an integral part of the broader spectrum of cultural diversity that exists within our society. Demographic trends suggest that language minority studentschildren whose primary language is not English-comprise an increasingly significant proportion of the student population in classrooms in many communities across the nation. Whether many languages are represented locally or only a few, the issues facing those involved in educating language minority students are complex and challenging.
