ABSTRACT
Research on the spatial inequalities of mortality within Europe is still scarce. There are a few partially detailed studies on some countries, but almost none at the level of the countries of the European Union as a whole. Geographical aspects of mortality have hardly been considered so far, and the rare existing information has been based on national figures showing relatively small differences between countries, rather than on regional data within countries.
