ABSTRACT

Here, masculinities in each site are summarized, emphasizing the relevance of the respective masculinities for forest management. I revisit Bushler Bay in the 1970s and 2017, and Long Segar in the 1980s–2000s and 2019. Findings from 1980s Sitiung are also revisited, with brief reference to current conditions. I then turn to the significance of masculinities in an elite forestry institution. I conclude with suggestions for how these masculinities should be (and should have been) taken into account in forest management, then and now, with the goal of improving forest management and enhancing human well-being.
