ABSTRACT
The Peer (PJS) story tabulates the critical and typical features of a whistleblowing case. Through a narrative, the chapter tells the story of how and why whistleblowing does (and doesn’t) happen. Further, the narrative describes, from a subjective point of view, what effect the whistleblowing has on key players, how it influences organizational climate and organization members, and the larger culture and institutions that encircle it. As a senior executive at the Norwegian National Lottery (Norsk Tipping), PJS observes the questionable conduct of top management. At first, he tries to ignore it, but his inner conflict sends him on an emotional rollercoaster where he finally ends up blowing the whistle. His whistleblowing act remains a secret for 29 months, when his cover is blown, and he eventually ends up leaving the organization.
