ABSTRACT

This essay provides a brief description of the political and historical context, as well as analysing the legal framework and emphasising the complex structure of the extensive legislation on the armed conflict. The most relevant institutions arising from the 2016 Peace Agreement are identified, along with the notable interest aroused by the archives, in order to adopt the principles of truth, justice, reparation, and guarantees of non-repetition. To conclude, the two great challenges for the future are presented: access to archives, especially those of the intelligence community, and the preservation of a documentary legacy of extraordinary value in terms of testimonies, heritage, and history – accompanied by a brief list of references and basic electronic resources.
