ABSTRACT

In Ventimiglia, an Italian city near the French border, some of the most aggressive political measures have been put in place to prevent the presence of migrants in the city’s territory. Catholic organizations have led the mobilization of civil society in defense of migrants invoking the defense of shared values such as the Christian charity. It has resulted in creating spaces of defense against persecution of migrants. However, this leadership has its limitations and risks shaping the interpretation and reproduction of social values.
