ABSTRACT
This chapter proposes adding a new term to the discourse of Chicanx speculative arts. Inspired by and building off of Catherine Ramírez’s “Chicanafuturism” and Curtiz Marez’s work on narratives of futurity in the agricultural labor movements from the Chicano Movement to the present, the chapter offers “Chicanafuturity”, which, in addition to projecting images of the future, promotes narratives of open-ended uncertainties that can be as dystopian as they are utopian. Expressions of Chicanafuturity are those that dare to imagine in the midst of the unknown.
