ABSTRACT

Indian SF has gradually bridged the digital divide in filmmaking and transcended ethnographic barriers to reflect South Asian Futurisms. This chapter aims to demonstrate and emphasize the experience of a technocratic and scientifically enhanced Indian society by analyzing two contemporary popular SF films: Robot (2010) and 2.0 (2018). This chapter, in this context, highlights the role of Robot and 2.0, that imagine and reimagine an Indian technocratic future through the representation of an alternative futuristic reality in alternate temporality. In addition, this chapter focuses on the complexities surrounding a robot and its cultural consequences in India and also examines the importance of SF films in articulating the apprehensions and expectations of the Indian populace.
