ABSTRACT
This chapter provides an introduction to the theme of crime and fear in public places, the book’s scope, steps taken in the making of the book, key definitions, and the synopsis of the chapters. This chapter also illustrates how this edited volume contributes to the current knowledge by examining the evidence of victimization and fear in public places from an interdisciplinary perspective with examples from the Global North–South contexts, considering theories at the crossroads of several disciplines.
