ABSTRACT
Structural change in academia is a powerful strategy for achieving gender equality and the sample EU funded projects referred to in this book show the extent to which cultural transformation is necessary to achieve this aim. Structural change needs to construct and be supported by gender-sensitive institutional processes and strategies, requiring a vision of gender equality, at individual and organisational levels, that crosses disciplinary boundaries and engages with a variety of gender and feminist perspectives. This final chapter draws upon the timely and invaluable contributions in the previous chapters and outlines what is required to meet the challenges and opportunities in academia towards gender equality. Drawing upon the body of evidence in previous chapters, it presents a blueprint for action which includes institutional and structural interventions, challenges behaviour, attitudes and cultures through specific measures which can collectively create a gender-sensitive university.
