ABSTRACT

There are five targets to track progress toward Sustainable Development Goal 2. Though these targets are clear and measurable, it can be challenging for sport organizations to measure their own contributions toward these targets, especially when aiming their efforts at the durable eradication rather than the amelioration of hunger. Thus, sport organizations must take a more creative approach in measuring progress toward SDG 2. In this chapter, the authors recommend that sport organizations begin by identifying the social and economic factors that drive food insecurity within their region using one of the metrics or methods referenced therein. Next, they suggest implementation of methods to track progress on food insecurity and “sustainable nutrition security,” as well as to evaluate outcomes of community food actions. These steps can help sport organizations identify their sphere of influence and create transformative change toward SDG 2.
