ABSTRACT

There are growing expectations internationally that schools and school systems will use research evidence to underpin and inform their improvement efforts. However, using research evidence in practice is neither simple nor straightforward, and it can be unclear what using research involves and how to do it well.

This chapter aims to help staff in schools to articulate and justify their approach to using research evidence to drive improvement. It covers the commitments a school can make, the practices it can follow and the supports it can provide. It is informed by the idea of quality use of research evidence, that is thoughtful engagement with and implementation of appropriate research evidence.
