ABSTRACT

It’s essential that school policies are based on the unique needs and contexts of each school and guided by empirically sound research. It is also important that the policy reflects the future direction and purpose of the school. An effective policy is complemented by the curriculum and sustained by a comprehensive action plan that will ensure proper dissemination of policy information and provide training for school staff. The chapter outlines how schools may create their own policies and guides readers to consider collaborative efforts that draw from members of the school community.
