ABSTRACT
This chapter collects various data on the Chinese film industry and analyzes the state of annual film production, the marketability of film genres, and the annual production profiles of various production companies. It summarizes the Chinese film production industry in 2018 with respect to these aspects. First, according to the data from the National Film Board, film output reached a new record in 2018. Second, the market performance of each genre is analyzed by ranking the top 30 box office domestic films of the year in terms of genre. Third, by comparing the top 20 imported films and the domestic films at the box office in China in 2017 and 2018, it is shown that domestic films in 2018 achieved better market advantage by their high-quality content. Finally, using the film production statistics on traditional state-owned, private production companies, and Internet film production companies and cutting-edge production companies, the different aspects of Chinese film production in 2018 are summarized.
