ABSTRACT

This chapter presents a living case study of ‘unconferencing’, in conversation with two of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs): Climate Action (#13) and Partnership for the Goals (#17). Held in Waterloo, Ontario, Engaging Economies of Change, the 12th biennial conference of the Canadian Society for Ecological Economics (CANSEE) celebrated and embodied the alternatives that ecological economics and complementary movements advance. Building on the ecological economic framings presented in this book, we argue that all SDGs must intentionally advance intersectional feminism in order to achieve the goals of sustainable development in harmony. Engaging Economies of Change offered an opportunity to address many of the norms and conventions of academic research in a new way, forging alternative pathways for collaboration, exchanging ideas and resources, and exemplifying research through practice. The chapter outlines six intentional initiatives in the conference that prioritize intersectional climate justice as well as solidarity and collaboration across the goals.
