ABSTRACT
Climate change is recognised as one of the Twenty-First Century’s greatest threats to population health and health equity. It also offers an opportunity to make systemic changes that will improve the health of the public. This chapter explores how the healthcare sector contributes to the climate emergency and how it might instead contribute to a sustainable world. We will discuss the intersections between the social determinants of health, health inequities, and the effects of a warming climate. A framework for building a zero-carbon healthcare system will be considered. Finally, we will consider a public health intervention to improve the health of people and the planet.
