ABSTRACT
Guy Berger rose to prominence as head of the School of Journalism and Media Studies at Rhodes University, Grahamstown, South Africa (1994–2011), where he is an emeritus professor. In 2011, Berger was appointed as the Director for Freedom of Expression and Media Development at UNESCO. While he officially retired from UNESCO in 2022, Berger continues his role as a freedom of expression champion, now as a private consultant. Berger has published extensively and also delivered numerous public presentations. He helped establish several outreach projects, including the successful hosting of the World Journalism Education Congress in July 2010. He runs a website called Comms Policy. Africa and writes on LinkedIn.
