ABSTRACT

Dr. Cat Pausé passed away suddenly and unexpectedly in 2022. A faculty member at Massey University in New Zealand, Dr. Pausé’s scholarly work and activism were immeasurably important in the fields of Gender and Fat Studies. One of the last pieces she wrote, just months before we lost her, is in this volume. But Cat was also a dear friend to many, including Substania Jones, a long time fat activist, artist, and founder of the Adipositivity Project. When asked to speak via video at her memorials in spring 2022, it was her friendship that Jones emphasized. What follows is one of those memorials, with the addition of some context and epilogue. In deepest thanks and gratitude to Cat Pausé, for her friendship, her scholarship, and her activism. She is truly and deeply missed.
