ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on discussing how contemporary youth movements leverage digital media to achieve a voice that can have an influence in public spheres. The chapter draws on field observations of the Fridays for Future movement in which youth in Sweden raise their concerns about climate change through public events. The analysis reveals interaction of different voices, integrated in the activists’ own argumentation and positioning. The chapter demonstrates how young citizen engagement plays out in a networked society achieving a unique position in what is characteristic of participatory politics.
