ABSTRACT

This chapter highlights some of the key findings from this handbook, with a special emphasis on the counterterrorism and irregular warfare operational case studies. It finds that a conclusive victory is difficult to achieve if the operational employment of Special Operations Forces is not part of a broader political strategy. Nevertheless, well-planned and well-executed irregular warfare efforts can produce more favorable political outcomes for the United States in some conflicts, and this chapter provides some insights as to when that is possible.
