ABSTRACT
Shirin Simmons, a world-renowned author of Persian cuisine, was born in Yazd to a multi-talented Zoroastrian family. She left Iran to study English at the age of twenty and then returned from England to Iran to become a nurse and a teacher. In the 1970s, she settled permanently in England, where she became famous for her cooking and the parties she hosted. She went on to cook professionally and published the first of many books in 1988. Her writing is firmly rooted in her Zoroastrian childhood and upbringing. The charm and interest of her recipes and methods described in this chapter lies in the context she provides of their provenance and meaning within the Iranian Zoroastrian community.
