ABSTRACT

This chapter presents an ethnographic experience carried out in two vocational training institutions located in the cities of Lyon (France) and Barcelona (Catalonia). We examine the type of shared professional competences students display when they participate in a translocal task involving the exchange of videos between the two groups. We pay particular attention to how in this plurilingual educational setting intercomprehension is attained thanks to the use of professional specialised language accompanied by multimodal elements. The exchange also allows participants to question the social role vocational training plays in both countries.
