ABSTRACT

This chapter offers a perspective on the current state of Catholic education at the school level in Chile using Gerald Grace’s key concept of spiritual capital and that of the market. With both concepts, I show the present and envision the future of Catholic schools in Chile. The Chilean educational system, inserted in market logics, presents a favourable case for examining Grace’s concepts. At the same time, those concepts, from the interest in the Catholic education studies field, symbolize arms with which to reflect and envision a better education system, not just for the Catholics, but for the whole Chilean society.
