ABSTRACT
Sustainable education is gaining prominence in school curricula throughout the world as there is a greater recognition of the value in educating students to be better carers of the future. UNESCO has been promoting this through the Global Citizenship Education Development (GCED) initiative. Whilst it is impossible to consider and map all curricula, it seems to be disingenuous to not consider pre-tertiary education, i.e. primary and secondary education. This chapter explores the sustainable education embedded in the Australian Curriculum as a case study. It unpacks how sustainable education is designed and embedded throughout the curriculum at all levels and consequently how it can be assessed through overarching but detailed continuum.
