ABSTRACT

This brief editor’s introduction specifically addresses Part II (the earlier editor’s introduction addressed the entire volume). Part II consists of an edited and abridged transcript of a series of five seminars that Garfinkel convened in the spring and early summer of 1980, on the topic of Discovering Work in the Sciences. He was preparing a plenary presentation for a large meeting to be held later that year that would be attended by philosophers, historians and sociologists of science. The editor’s introduction summarizes the five seminars and provides some preliminary remarks on how they were edited.
