ABSTRACT

This chapter is a description of the lessons learnt, challenges experienced, and insights gained by the Southern Africa Litigation Centre in initiating and supporting strategic litigation in Southern Africa for the realization and protection of sexual and reproductive health rights. It takes a critical look at some cases filed and decided in Lesotho, Malawi, Botswana, and Zimbabwe. Some of the issues dealt with relating to the protection of sexual and reproductive health rights in these cases involve the right of women in restricted work environments to decide on fertility and family planning, management of learner pregnancy, the operation of prescription on reproductive health violation claims and the provision of safe abortion.
