ABSTRACT
On May 12, 2022, Carleton University’s Armond Towns met with Southern California Institute of Architecture’s Jeremy Kamal Hartley via Zoom to discuss the interconnections between their work on art, race, blackness, and media ecology. This transcribed and edited conversation outlines the unique approaches both Towns and Hartley take in their respective art and research projects, both of which they view as central to imagining a world beyond racism and planetary destruction. In their shared discussion lies an expansion of media ecology into questions concerning the colonial assumptions of nature, Black radical thought, and artistic design and resistance.
