ABSTRACT
This chapter examines how imperialism and settler colonialism structured the police both in France and its colonies. It examines the ways in which these colonial legacies have permeated policing practices today. The chapter also examines contemporary movements to resist violent policing, such as through activism in Senegal and legal action against racial profiling in France.
