ABSTRACT
This chapter describes the main features of conflict system analysis as a method to understand the complexity of today’s conflicts. It also describes a 3-phase process of integrating climate-related security risks into conflict analysis. By drawing from the internal processes of Folke Bernadotte Academy (FBA) that integrate climate security aspects into conflict analyses, the chapter describes how it led to deeper discussions about theories of change; facilitated internal discussions regarding what preventive measures, such as dialogue, mediation, or diplomacy, that would be best suited in a particular conflict context; provided an opportunity for FBA to include and listen deeply to actors who might previously have been ignored or marginalized; as well as facilitated connections, collaboration, and coordination between peace and conflict practitioners and researchers, local stakeholders, and climate researchers.
