ABSTRACT

This handbook is envisioned as a collection of actionable knowledge co-created by water researchers, professionals, decision-makers, and users. It creates an accessible reference for those seeking negotiated resolutions of water problems and dialogue opportunities at the transnational, subnational, and community scales. We view this as a living and evolving resource. It is not a cookbook full of reproducible recipes but rather a chef’s companion that is created, shared, used, and continuously refined by the users. To make this a truly living document, in addition to the open access published version of the handbook, we will connect the contents of this handbook with AquaPedia. AquaPedia is an existing web-based resource that allows the creation, sharing, and use of actionable water knowledge through collective engagement. As information, knowledge, and wisdom about addressing water problems continue to change, connecting the handbook’s contents with AquaPedia allows us to continuously update and refine actionable knowledge about water. This chapter starts with an overview of AquaPedia. It provides one transnational and one community-scale case study to illustrate how the contents of the Water Diplomacy Handbook can be related to AquaPedia case studies in a cohesive manner. Our hope is that both the Handbook and AquaPedia form a living resource that can continuously be updated through collective contributions from water researchers, professionals, decision-makers, and users worldwide.
