ABSTRACT

Balancing work and personal life was already an issue long before the COVID-19 pandemic. However, there is still little evidence as to how coworking spaces (CSs) may improve work-life balance and influence of the COVID-19 pandemic. This chapter therefore aims to identify services that support coworkers’ work-life balance and the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on what CSs offer. Interviews (N = 18) and surveys (N = 23) among managers of independently operated CSs in the Czech Republic, Hungary, and Slovakia were analyzed and five main categories of services were defined. These can be identified across all countries of interest in varying types and amounts, and are influenced by CS size and characteristics, coworker expectations, and the owners’ attitudes and experiences. The findings show that the COVID-19 pandemic has impacted the services offered by CSs and severely hindered their role in connecting people.
