ABSTRACT
This chapter discusses Animal Welfare Education as the mechanism for ensuring widespread understanding and acceptance of the fundamentals so that future decisions that affect animals are made with the animal’s own needs placed front and centre. It will explore the variety of mechanisms employed to include the subject within the school curriculum, and the varying approaches to provision for those entering into professions that have direct interaction and responsibility for animals. This chapter explores mechanisms for communicating with wide ranging audiences – and the importance of doing so without judgement or reproach – as part of the wider need for us all to take responsibility for shifting social norms, so that decisions and behaviours can change, both now and in the future, for the benefit of the animals we have a duty of care for.
