ABSTRACT
The densification technique through the metropolitan-type urban centrality strategy, derived from an urban development method prefigured by the Spinner 2013 research, “Designing buildings. New integrated quality models for the compact city,” was applied to the urban regeneration project of the former fruit and vegetable market in Bologna at the Architectural Design Workshop held at the Bologna-Cesena School of Architecture from November 23 to November 30, 2019.
The chapter will outline the analytical and meta-design process set on the built-up body of the contemporary city and aimed at the urban design of new architectural typologies defined as urban centralities as structuring elements of the future polycentric city. The project method makes use from the design results achieved by the UNIPR design group during the aforementioned workshop.
