ABSTRACT
This chapter describes the development of a music group, Stone Flowers, for survivors of torture at a torture rehabilitation charity in the UK. It outlines the theory and practice that was developed by Music Action International (MAI) who delivered the group, alongside centre staff, and explores the impact of creating original music on survivor mental health. It briefly examines the growing body of research that illustrates the power of music to support recovery and improve wellbeing. The chapter includes quotes from survivors who were members of the group as well as lyrics from Stone Flowers.
