ABSTRACT

This chapter describes how multi-level healing takes place in a slow, open psychotherapy group based on Herman’s phased trauma processing model and incorporating non-verbal/action-based techniques. Modifications to group-analytic theory and practice are highlighted, including the addition of a post-group peer support component and individual casework undertaken by therapists taking on a key worker role. This group description is offered as an example of an alternative format to time-limited groupwork illustrating the benefits experienced by members of being able to learn from each other and share the ongoing challenges of life as a person seeking asylum in the UK.
