ABSTRACT
This chapter offers concrete guidance for students, practitioners, and policymakers wanting to embrace the diversity and complexity of persons living with dementia, and revolutionise the way we provide support and care throughout their illness experiences. I apply anti-oppression gerontology principles to dementia policy and practice via the medium of a counter-story of Olive, a care home resident with dementia, and Harpreet, the care home social worker. Harpreet’s adoption of a more critical/radical approach to dementia over the course of the chapter – as she learns more about dementia and interacts with Olive and other residents and workers – prepares her to serve as an accomplice to persons with dementia and their families and communities seeking to shift the current social order.
