ABSTRACT
With the Central Asia Regional Economic Cooperation region having abundant proven reserves of natural gas, a pan-Asian trade model suggests it could enjoy welfare gains if it were connected to the region via natural gas pipelines. The region is advised to pursue “cooperative competition” by increasing the size of the regional natural gas market first and competing openly later.
