ABSTRACT

Golden Kamuy is a bestselling manga that introduces Ainu culture in great detail. Fans of the manga and the subsequent anime have engaged in two particular forms of tourism beyond location hunting. First, they have gone to Ainu restaurants to sample the food introduced in the manga. Second, they have visited sites related to the Imperial Army Seventh Division. While the story is fictional action adventure, fans learn the imperial history of Hokkaido both from the perspective of the Ainu, whose land was colonized, and the army units raised and stationed in Hokkaido during the early twentieth century.
