ABSTRACT

Sometimes war forms the backdrop to a story and the extreme experience of war allows heightened emotions or plot twists to be introduced. This chapter introduces two examples of transmedia franchises adapted for the stage in which romances take place against the backdrop of war: Samurai X and Here Comes Miss Modern. These productions are notable for inducing theatre (contents) tourism, whereby fans often travel long distances to see the plays at the theatre. The discussion focuses attention on how war-related tourism may be induced by stories that have war issues centre stage, as a backdrop, or even behind the scenes.
