ABSTRACT

In the 1950s and 1960s, Southern European and South American countries were linked by considerable migration flows. This chapter, based on statistical data from the archives of international organizations such as the ICEM and ILO as well as from the national archives of several emigration and immigration countries, provides an overview of migration flows from Southern Europe to South America and their economic impact on sending and receiving countries, focusing especially on the major issue of remittances.
