Introduction

This introductory chapter provides the necessary fisheries context and terminology to guide the reader through the discussions found in the subsequent chapters of this book. In doing so, it first outlines the applicable fisheries policy prior to, during and after Brexit. Second, it profiles the diverse sea fishing industry across the United Kingdom (UK) and notes the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic. Third, the fishing industry of the European Union (EU) as it pertains to fishing in UK waters is also profiled. Finally, this chapter provides an outline of the chapters of the book.
