ABSTRACT

Co-authored by Improving Social Inclusion for People with Dementia and Carers through Sharing Dance project researchers and collaborators with expertise in age-friendly and dementia-friendly communities, the aim of this chapter is to advance conceptualizations of age-related social inclusion, particularly with reference to people living with dementia and their carers. The chapter reviews existing research on social inclusion in relation to dementia, ageing, and well-being. A key feature of this chapter is its focus on how the arts can deepen understandings of experiences and processes of inclusion across different settings. The chapter is of interest to social gerontologists and ageing and arts-based organizations interested in promoting social inclusion.
