ABSTRACT
Daily news headings like “We may all die” along with in-depth descriptions of how painful it is to die of pneumonia caused by COVID-19, has been the reality since March in Norway. As of now, we know a great deal about COVID-19. In the author's view, the mass media have gone far in provoking fear and anxiety among people. This may affect young children hard, as they are not cognitively mature enough to make the distinction between fake news and facts. In Norway, day care centers and schools were shut down for 5–6 weeks, against the advice from the Norwegian Institute of Public Health. Only children of parents in essential societal positions had access to child care services. Norwegian child protection services had large problems in recruiting new visitation families and foster families during the spring semester, even larger troubles than before.
