ABSTRACT
The Murray–Darling Basin (MDB) is home to Australia’s most precious and scarce resource: water. It provides water for over three million people and contributes to a significant proportion of Australia’s agricultural production. From its early colonial days, the river has a sorry story to tell; it has been grossly mismanaged and depleted, and is in a very sad condition. 1
