ABSTRACT
The world of adventure sports is often characterized by people escaping the stress and tribulations of contemporary society. These practices have ubiquitous representation on social media, where some individuals wield considerable influence over their followers. Within this category of outdoor adventurers who curate their own profiles are those who use their adventurous exploits as a means to promote environmental justice. Little research has examined these ‘adventure activists’ and the ways in which they influence their publics. In a world that is facing enormous, era-defining challenges, this chapter examines how adventurers are able to positively influence their own activity cultures through the power of Instagram.
